Jeffrey M. Closs
Co-founder and CEO
Jeff is responsible for the overall strategy and execution at BENU. He has operational experience in sales, marketing, operations, finance, and has industry experience in medical device technology, insurance, software and employee benefits. He loves spending time at the beach or on the slopes with his wife and four children. He has a MBA from Emory University and a BA from University of California, Los Angeles.
Jonathan Hawkins
Co-Founder and President
Jon's responsibilities have included running all facets of the business with recent focus on growing revenue. His experience covers a breadth of industries including technology, insurance, benefits and retail during which he has developed a passion for building and growing businesses. His favorite activity is skiing with his wife and kids. He received his MBA from Harvard University and a BA from Stanford University.
David Devereaux
Chief Operating Officer
Dave is primarily focused on BENU's customer service operations and business strategies. His career spans more than 40 years in the health care field in a variety of financial, operating, and consulting roles with CIGNA and United Healthcare, and was a BENU Board member for several years prior to the ClearBenefits acquisition. He and his wife and two daughters reside in Alamo. Dave has a BA from Hamilton College.
Madeline Bottari
Vice President of Client Services
Madeline is responsible for post-sales client support and overall client satisfaction. Madeline has a wealth of experience from Fortune 500 to smaller start-ups in the software and information technology industries and has held senior management positions in Operations, Sales, Service, Finance and IT. In her spare time Madeline loves to entertain and host family dinners.
Manish Kumar
Senior Director of Engineering & QA
Manish is responsible for leading and maintaining BENU's software engineering, QA and EDI teams and for the successful execution of all software development and release cycles. Manish has 15+ years experience in software design and management and prior to joining BENU Manish worked with global consulting companies on software engineering projects in a variety of industries. He resides in the San Francisco Bay Area where, in his leisure time, he enjoys playing cricket outdoors with his family and friends. Manish holds a BE degree in Computer Science & Technology from Bangalore University, India.
Renèe How
Director, Premium and Risk Services
Renèe is responsible for all premium management and risk services at Benu. Renèe has over 20 years of experience in employer benefits ranging from Product Management designing benefits administration systems at EDS (now HP) and Healtheon/WebMD to pension actuarial services at Coopers and Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). Renèe and her husband and two children enjoy taking advantage of many of the activities available in the greater Bay Area. Renèe earned a BA in Mathematics from Mills College.
Christina Sheppard
Director of Client Services
Christina's primary accountability at BENU is client management and service. Her network and data management, contracting and customer service experience working for multiple national health plans helps define BENU quality standards. She enjoys contributing time community outreach focusing on supporting veterans and literacy programs.
Jessica Hidalgo
Senior Director, Product
Jessica's primary responsibility at BENU is developing and executing a product vision for our online and mobile applications. She has over 15 years of experience in the product development life cycle in both Benefits Administration and Customer Relationship Management and is a Certified Scrum Product Owner. She is an avid cyclist and often rides from her home in San Francisco to the BENU offices in San Mateo. She spends most of her free time these days with her twins. She has a BS from University California Berkeley.
Leslie Nichols
Director of COBRA Administration & Call Center Operations
Leslie manages the COBRA administration, retiree premium management and the Employee Help Desk/Call Center teams. She has over 15 years of experience in administration, employee benefits and service management. In spare time, she enjoys many outdoor activities, including hiking and spending time with family and friends. Leslie holds a BS degree in Business Management.
Brittany Cowing
Sales Operations Manager
Brittany manages the Sales Operations team at BENU overseeing Suite Spot new business and renewal processes. Brittany has been part of the BENU team since 2009 but has always been passionate about healthcare, originally earning her BS in Nursing from Villanova University. On a personal level, Brittany is an enthusiastic animal-lover who enjoys exploring all that the Bay Area has to offer from touring wine country, to weekend trips to Tahoe, to oyster shucking, to local music shows.

Regional Vice President
Beca focuses on sales nationally and in the San Diego area but also is actively involved in company marketing activities. She has an extensive career spanning 20+ years with industry leaders in both benefit consulting and insurance administration. She loves to travel, read and on weekends, hike with her family (and a big yellow dog). Ms. Tomcho has a BA in Economics from San Diego State University.
Christine Nishimura
Senior Sales Executive
Christine focuses on sales and account management activities in Northern California. Her 20+ years in human resources and broker management has carried forward her passion to offer BENU clients a full benefit solution. In between carpooling her 2 girls to and from gymnastics competitions and basketball tournaments, she enjoys calming activities like reading, running and yoga. Christine completed her Bachelor degree in Business at California State University, East Bay and received her Paralegal License from Kaplan University.
